North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek made the following statement regarding the historic victories on Election Day:
From the White House to the State House, the Democratic message of hope, transformation and unity of purpose resonated with North Carolina voters.
People who have never participated in the political process before registered to vote; stood in line for hours at the polls; knocked on doors; called their neighbors; and attended rallies.
That tells us that North Carolinians are willing to invest their hopes and dreams in the Democratic Party. And that’s not something we take for granted.
Now, Democrats begin the hard work of strengthening our economy, improving the quality of our schools, and expanding access to quality healthcare. Now we set out to make the dreams of a better state and nation a reality. Our mission is clear and our will is unwavering.
President Barack Obama; U.S. Senator Kay Hagan; Gov. Bev Perdue; and our congressional delegation, including our newest member Larry Kissell, will work with our Democratic Legislature and Council of State to put people first and recognize that every person is important in our democracy.
